The Endeleo Project began in 2007 as the vision of a few law students at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. So many of our friends were great people who wanted to do good. They wanted to give money to causes that mattered and to people who were doing amazing things. Like a lot of young people, though, they challenged traditional notions of "charity" as having a donor and a recipient. They disliked the idea of simply throwing money at a project and walking away; they wanted to engage with other people, build lasting relationships, and learn and be transformed themselves.
The problem was, they had no idea where to begin. How do you find an orphanage in Kenya that needs money to build a science lab for its school children? How do you find a tiny school in one of the poorest parts of Latin America that needs money to fix its leaky roof? If you've found those places, how do you reach out to them so that you can go visit, set up a plan to give regularly, or even help them by lending your talents? That's where the Endeleo Project comes in. We connect people to charities and charities to people.
As we began to partner with schools, orphanages and other kinds of programs, we found that our partner charities had needs beyond funding. They needed to know how to apply for 501(c)(3) status, how to build a website, how to evaluate their successes, and how to plan for the future. We slowly began to provide those services as well, free of charge. After all, our partners are doing amazing work around the globe, and they should be free to focus their energy where it needs to be. We step in to help with whatever we can do, including providing a fundraising platform, building websites, conducting program evaluations, giving regulatory support and guidance, and planning strategically for the future. We are always on the lookout for people with skills who want to give some of their time to assisting one of our partner organizations.
