A little more than three years ago when we launched our charity, we were horrified to learn that every eight seconds a shelter animal is put to death simply for lack of anyone to adopt him. Couple this with the sobering statistics on military suicide (22 every day) and PTSD (30% of Vietnam veterans and 20% of Iraq/Afghanistan veterans), we knew that if we put these pets and veterans together we could help save a lot of lives. To date, we've paired more than 400 pets - most at risk of death - with veterans and service members who need a new pet friend.
But we can't do it alone; we need everyday heroes - people like you - to help us save even more lives.
You don't have to be a veteran adopting a dog or cat to be heroic. You just have to be that person that will open your heart and home to an animal in need. Go ahead: be a pet's hero!
